        "content": "<p>TNT, Schenker strike new Asia-Pacific deal<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): TNT Express Worldwide, the Amsterdam-based<br>\ncourier service firm, announced yesterday a new deal with the<br>\nfreight forwarding company Schenker International AG of Germany<br>\nallowing the latter to tap the former's facilities for its<br>\nservices in the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>The cooperation agreement was forged by TNT's Indonesian<br>\naffiliate PT Skypak International and Schenker's forwarding<br>\npartner PT Petrolog Transkontinen Utama.<\/p>\n<p>\"The deal will, then, allow the Frankfurt-based Schenker<br>\nInternational and Petrolog to have full access to TNT services by<br>\nusing all its shipping facilities and distribution networks in<br>\nthe region,\" Skypak's senior technical advisor, Rod Lancaster,<br>\ntold reporters during a luncheon yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\"With TNT's Asian Air Express network, Schenker can now use<br>\nour three existing airplanes serving Jakarta, Singapore, Manila,<br>\nHong Kong, Seoul and Taipei for its forwarding services,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>The deal also allows Schenker to use TNT's other services<br>\noutside the region, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lancaster told The Jakarta Post that Schenker, which has been<br>\nworking with Petrolog for 20 years, will be able to strengthen<br>\nits business in the region after two new TNT aircraft commence<br>\noperation in June or July.<\/p>\n<p>\"The new airplanes will expand our services to Beijing,<br>\nShanghai and some cities in India and Vietnam,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>In return<\/p>\n<p>In return, TNT will be allowed to use Petrolog's sea freight<br>\nservices. TNT will have full access to all Schenker's networks,<br>\ncovering Africa, Australia, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, the<br>\nUnited States, Latin America and Southeast Asia, Petrolog's<br>\npresident, Moetaryanto, said.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the deal, the parties have also agreed to exchange<br>\ninformation on the market and the forwarding business.<\/p>\n<p>Lancaster said the cooperation would foster TNT's revenues<br>\nfrom courier services by around 20 percent per annum.<\/p>\n<p>TNT launched an overnight courier service in the region last<br>\nyear, guaranteeing the delivery of documents, parcels and cargo<br>\nwithin 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>TNT, which operates in more than 200 countries, posted a total<br>\nturnover in worldwide services of US$1.5 billion in 1992-93, up<br>\nfrom around $1.06 billion in 1991-92.<\/p>\n<p>TNT is owned by TNT Ltd., an Australian transportation<br>\nconglomerate, and GD Net BV, a consortium of the post offices of<br>\nGermany, France, Sweden, the Netherlands and Canada.(fhp)<\/p>",
