TNI identifies Freeport attacker<\/p>\n

The Indonesian Military (TNI) has identified one of the attackers
\nwho killed three Freeport Indonesia employees on Saturday as a
\nmember of Free Papua Organization (OPM), an officer said on
\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
TNI spokesman Maj. Gen. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin told The Jakarta
\nPost the OPM figure in question was Titus Murif, whose group
\nopened fire on a convoy of cars carrying the gold and copper mine
\ncompany employees on their way to Tembagapura in Papua on
\nSaturday. Apart from the casualties, 12 people were injured in
\nthe incident in a place where security used to be tight.<\/p>\n
\"Titus Murif is a leader of a hard-line faction of OPM and is
\none of Kelly Kwalik's subordinates,\" Sjafrie said.<\/p>\n
Kelly is a rebel leader, who was held responsible for
\nabduction of foreign and local researchers in 1996.<\/p>\n
Sjafrie said the projectiles discovered at the site of
\nincident were from M-16 A1 automatic and SP-1 semiautomatic
\nrifles.<\/p>\n
He, nevertheless, refused to estimate the strength of Titus'
\ngroup, but underlined that \"they are just a little group who are
\ntrying to show that they exist.\"<\/p>\n
Earlier, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu claimed
\nthat the military was seeking around 15 rebels linked to the
\nambush who \"conducted an attack in a territory belonging to
\nKwalik's separatist rebel group.\"<\/p>\n
National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar did not immediately
\npoint the finger at OPM, saying that the police were still unsure
\nabout the identity of the perpetrators.<\/p>\n
Da'i is currently visiting the province in an attempt to
\ncollect more first-hand information about the attack.<\/p>\n
Asked how the group managed to enter the compound which is
\ntightly guarded, Sjafrie refused to speculate.<\/p>\n
\"In this unconventional war, OPM is on the alert, waiting
\nuntil security officers lose their concentration. And that was
\nwhat exactly what happened there,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He rejected speculation that TNI and the Army's Special Force
\n(Kopassus) Tribuana stationed in the territory backed the attack.<\/p>",
