TNI, cop, civil servant nabbed for drug party<\/p>\n

Two TNI soldiers, one police officer and a civil servant in the
\nJakarta administration were arrested on Friday for crystal
\nmethamphetamine possession and use in a private party at the
\nDusit Hotel in Mangga Dua, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Adj. First Lt. Nur Ali of South Jakarta Military Command,
\nFirst Sergeant Ohan from East Jakarta Military Command, First
\nBrig. Johan of West Jakarta Police precinct and head of Jakarta
\nIndustrial Training Center (BLKI) Gofur Ismail were arrested at 3
\np.m. on Friday at a room in the Dusit Hotel after the police were
\ntipped off by a group of residents.<\/p>\n
Chief of the drugs squad at city police Sr. Comr. Carlo Brix
\nTewu said police confiscated 10 grams of shabu-shabu (crystal
\nmethamphetamine) and arrested three sex workers, who were
\nallegedly hired to join the party.<\/p>\n
\"We are now questioning them here at headquarters. We are
\nstill trying to find out whether they are drug users or dealers
\nas 10 grams of shabu-shabu is too much for users,\" he told The
\nJakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Ten grams of shabu-shabu could be used by dozens of people,
\nCarlo said.<\/p>\n
\"We waited for several hours before we were sure that we had
\nevidence we needed. After we saw them using drug we immediately
\narrested them,\" Carlo said.<\/p>\n
He said police would turn over the cases to the police
\ninternal affairs section and the military police after
\nquestioning.<\/p>\n
Carlo said the two soldiers would be tried in a public court
\nand charged under Laws No. 22\/1997 on narcotics and No. 5\/1997 on
\npsychotropic substances. Both carry the death sentence as the
\nmaximum penalty.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Police chief of internal affairs Sr. Comr. Anwaruddin
\nsaid that his unit would charge Johan if they found enough
\nevidence in the investigation.<\/p>\n
\"We will not tolerate drug use by police officers as they
\nshould be an example to the public. Not only that, we are in the
\nmiddle of a nationwide antidrug campaign,\" he told the Post.<\/p>\n
Carlo said that police would handle the case files of the four
\nremaining suspects -- one civil servant and three sex workers.<\/p>\n
Many police officers, soldiers and civil servants have been
\narrested recently for using and trafficking drugs. While some
\nhave been convicted of crimes, others have walked free, causing
\ncriticism of the internal discipline processes that some
\nobservers say lack much-needed transparency.<\/p>\n
Recently, Hendra Ruhendra, a prosecutor fron Cibinong, was
\ncharged by police with supplying drugs and illegal ownership of
\nguns after he was caught for illegal possession of two guns and
\n187 grams of shabu-shabu.<\/p>",
