        "content": "<p>The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Chief General Agus\nSubiyanto has declared Alert Level I for all defence units in Indonesia.\nThe decision, taken amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East, was\nconfirmed by the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) Chief\nLieutenant General Yudi Abdimantyo. \u201cThe Alert Level I issued by the TNI\nCommander is addressed to all TNI elements, including Bais TNI,\u201d Yudi\ntold Tempo on Saturday, 7 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Alert Level I in TNI command represents the highest level of\nreadiness, where all personnel must be stationed at their bases, fully\nequipped with weapons, ammunition, and vehicles, to face an emergency\nthreat.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yudi, the purpose of the Alert Level I issued by the\ncommander is to pre-empt domestic security developments in the wake of\nthe US and Israel attack on Iran. The attack prompted Iranian\nretaliation, which saw strikes against several US military bases in\nMiddle Eastern countries. As a result, those retaliatory attacks\naffected the safety of Indonesian nationals (WNI) in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTNI, as the frontline guardian of NKRI sovereignty, must anticipate\nevery development. This applies to global, regional, and national\nspheres,\u201d Yudi stated.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically regarding Bais, Yudi explained that the telegram directs\nthis intelligence unit to instruct all Indonesian Defence Attach\u00e9s in\nthe region to map and record Indonesians present in those countries. He\nnoted that approximately 541,511 Indonesians reside in the affected\nareas.<\/p>\n<p>The areas referred to include Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab\nEmirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Yemen, Lebanon,\nSyria, and Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this regard, Bais TNI, together with related parties, will\ncooperate to secure Indonesians and conduct safe and orderly evacuation\nif required,\u201d Yudi added.<\/p>\n<p>As a follow-up to the telegram, Yudi added that Bais will also\ncollaborate with all intelligence stakeholders to carry out early\ndetection of possible domestic threats, including around foreign\nembassies located in Jakarta, such as the United States Embassy.<\/p>\n<p>Domestic security by Bais will be conducted in a closed manner. \u201cAs\nan intelligence element, Bais TNI will carry out closed protections\ntogether with other intelligence units.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Head of Public Information at the Indonesian National Armed\nForces (Mabes TNI), Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, had not\nresponded to requests for confirmation regarding the commander\u2019s\ntelegram on Alert Level I.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Republika reported on 7 March 2026 that the telegram\ndocument was signed by the Commander\u2019s Operations Assistant (Asops)\nLieutenant General Bobby Rinal Makmun in Jakarta on 1 March 2026. The\ndocument contained seven important orders for the TNI. First, the\nCommander of Main Operational Command (Pangkotamaops) must mobilise\npersonnel and main weapon system assets under its command and conduct\npatrols at vital strategic objects and economic hubs, such as airports,\nseaports, river ports, railway stations, and bus terminals, as well as\nPLN offices.<\/p>\n<p>Second, the National Air Defence Command (Kohanudnas) must carry out\ncontinuous 24-hour early detection and air surveillance. Third, instruct\nBais TNI to ensure the security of Indonesians abroad. Fourth, order the\nJayakarta Command (Kodam Jaya\/Jayakarta) to patrol strategic locations\nand embassies and to anticipate developments to maintain conduciveness\nin the Jakarta area. Fifth, TNI intelligence units must conduct early\ndetection and prevention of groups at vital strategic sites and\nembassies and anticipate developments to maintain conduciveness in\nJakarta. Sixth, the Balakpus (Central Implementing Agency) must remain\non alert in its units. Seventh, report any developments to the Commander\nin a timely manner.
