Students from the TNI Command and Staff College (Sesko TNI) have been\ninvolved in the management of forest and land fires (karhutla) and haze\nin South Kalimantan. A number of students from the LVI Regular Course of\nSesko TNI have been specifically deployed to South Kalimantan to assist\nin handling forest and land fires in the region.<\/p>\n
Upon their arrival on Sunday (30\/08\/2026), the team received a\nbriefing from the Commander of the 101\/Antasari Military District,\nBrigadier General TNI Ilham Yunus, regarding the regional situation in\nSouth Kalimantan and the development of the forest fires.<\/p>\n
Based on regional sector divisions, Sesko TNI students are conducting\neducational outreach and inspections across various areas in South\nKalimantan, organised into small groups of four to five students each.\nThe primary focus for these officers is the management of forest fires,\nwhich have a widespread impact on the community, the environment, the\neconomy, and regional security and safety.<\/p>\n
One of the activities undertaken by the TNI students in South\nKalimantan is providing socialisation to the public and students in\nschools. For instance, on Wednesday (02\/09\/2026) afternoon, several TNI\nstudents conducted an educational session at SMAN 5 Banjarbaru.<\/p>\n
The session focused on the specific characteristics of peatlands in\nSouth Kalimantan, where grass roots can act as a wick during the dry\nseason, spreading into the ground and triggering extensive fires.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we explained and emphasised today were truly implementable\nmatters. We provided an overview of why peatlands in Kalimantan have\ndifferent characteristics compared to other regions, making fires\nextremely dangerous,\u201d said a representative of the TNI students, Colonel\nInf Iman Widhiarto.<\/p>\n
Beyond Banjarbaru, the LVI Regular Course team from Sesko TNI has\nbeen deployed to various other areas in South Kalimantan, including\nBarito Kuala (Batola), Tanah Laut (Tala), Tapin, and Banjar Regency.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, there are four large teams deployed across East\nKalimantan, Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.\nIn South Kalimantan, there are 23 personnel divided into five teams: one\nin Banjarbaru city, and others in Banjar, Tanah Laut, Tapin, and\nBatola,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
In addition to school outreach, since arriving in South Kalimantan,\nthe TNI student team has also directly visited fire sites, such as the\nGuntung Damar area near the primary zone of the Banjarbaru airport, and\nparticipated in other impactful activities.<\/p>\n
The Principal of SMAN 5 Banjarbaru, Indriaty Ermayani, noted that the\nsocialisation provided by the Sesko TNI students is highly beneficial\nfor increasing student knowledge amidst the high incidence of forest\nfires in Banjarbaru. She noted that students welcomed the presence of\nthe TNI personnel with enthusiasm, hoping the activity would foster\nawareness and care regarding fire prevention in both homes and\nschools.<\/p>\n
