TNI claims innocence in Papua attack<\/p>\n
SORONG, Papua: An Indonesian Military (TNI) team investigating
\nthe ambush on employees of PT Freeport Indonesia in Timika said
\nthey found no evidence of military involvement in the August
\nincident.<\/p>\n
A local military commander Col. MR Saragih told Antara on
\nSunday a team of 10 officers from TNI legal affairs, military
\npolice, inspectorate general, intelligence unit and infantry
\nweaponry concluded that no soldiers were involved in the attack
\nafter collecting accounts from witnesses and facts on the field.<\/p>\n
The team has reported the result of the investigation to TNI
\nChief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto, according to Saragih, who
\naccompanied the team during their fact-finding mission in Papua.<\/p>\n
Saragih said the team discovered the attackers, who killed two
\nAmericans and an Indonesian, sprayed bullets which were different
\nfrom those used in TNI standard-issue weapons.<\/p>\n
"Accusations of TNI involvement in the attack are far from the
\nreality; so we found on the ground. Those views have been spread
\nto undermine TNI," Saragih said.<\/p>\n
TNI is threatening to file a lawsuit against U.S. daily
\nWashington Post for its report that linked the military with the
