The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has designated four soldiers, previously detained in connection with the mid-March acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, as suspects under charges of assault, with them now held in a maximum-security military detention facility. Efforts to obtain Yunus's statement as a witness were delayed due to health concerns and his placement under witness protection by the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), underscoring TNI's commitment to transparent and professional law enforcement. The case was discussed in Indonesia's House of Representatives Commission III, where lawmakers urged the identification of intellectual actors behind the attack, raised concerns over its handling by military police amid allegations of civilian involvement and serious human rights violations, and called for a joint fact-finding team to ensure thorough investigation.

The TNI Headquarters, through the TNI Information Centre (Puspen
TNI), has announced that the soldiers previously secured in relation to
the acid-throwing terror against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus have now
been designated as suspects.

There are four soldiers who were previously secured by the TNI
Military Police Corps (Puspom TNI) in connection with the incident that
occurred in mid-March.

“The four perpetrators have been designated as suspects and have been
undergoing detention at the military detention facility (Maximum
Security) of the Jakarta Military Region Command (Pomdam Jaya) Guntur
since 18 March 2026,” stated TNI Information Centre Chief Major General
Aulia Dwi Nasrullah in a statement received on Tuesday (31 March)
evening.

“The article applied to the suspects is the assault article,” he
added.

He explained that investigators from Puspom TNI had also attempted to
obtain a statement from Andrie as a witness on 19 March.

However, at that time, “The doctor had not permitted it due to health
reasons.”

Subsequently, on 25 March 2026, Puspom TNI received a letter from the
Head of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) stating that
witness-victim Andrie Yunus is now under LPSK protection.

On that basis, Aulia said that Puspom TNI has sent a letter to the
LPSK Head regarding a request to obtain a statement from Andrie Yunus as
a witness-victim.

“The TNI is committed to carrying out law enforcement processes in an
open, professional, and accountable manner,” he said.

Previously, Puspom secured four TNI members from the Strategic
Intelligence Agency (BAIS) in connection with the acid-throwing terror
case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus, which occurred on
12 March 2026.

The four secured TNI members are Second Lieutenant SL, Captain NDP,
Second Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.

Parliamentary Hearing

Separately, today, the acid terror incident against Andrie Yunus, who
is also the Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, was specifically discussed in
a General Hearing Meeting (RDPU) at House of Representatives Commission
III.

In the meeting’s conclusion, Commission III urged the authorities to
uncover the intellectual actors. Today marks the third meeting related
to the acid terror case.

“So today’s meeting is not final yet; we cannot make conclusions now,
as it might be premature. But clearly, Commission III of the House of
Representatives will hold a special plenary meeting regarding this
case,” said Habib at the end of the meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

In this third follow-up meeting, the PDIP and Democrat factions
supported the government in forming a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) to
thoroughly investigate the acid terror case.

Additionally, Member of Commission III from the Golkar Faction,
retired Inspector General of Police Rikwanto, assessed that the handover
of the case to Puspom TNI remains contradictory. However, he hopes that
all parties continue to follow the case’s developments.

Moreover, recent suspicions of civilian involvement in the case have
emerged. Thus, the possibility of connected trials between general
criminal courts and military courts remains open.

“I hope that KontraS and the Metro Police prepare research results
and developments, to be used whenever needed, to clarify what happened,”
said Rikwanto.

Member of Commission III from the PDIP Faction, Mercy Barends, views
the acid terror case against Andrie as a serious human rights violation.
She therefore questions the handover of the case to Puspom TNI.

“On what basis was it then handed over? Whereas this attack case is
truly a serious criminal act and a serious human rights violation,”
Mercy stated.

PDIP, Mercy continued, views the law enforcement of Andrie’s case as
a form of democracy enforcement. Because, according to her, democracy
must not tolerate terror.

“We must not lose. And what we discuss today represents our support
for Andrie Yunus,” she said.
",
