Denpasar (ANTARA) - TNI personnel under Kodam IX\/Udayana have moved\nquickly to handle the impact of the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara\n(NTT), from data collection and evacuation of victims to health\nservices, field kitchens and meeting the basic needs of affected\ncommunities.<\/p>\n
The response was further strengthened with the arrival of Indonesian\nDefence Minister General TNI (Ret.) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at Komodo\nAirport, Labuan Bajo, NTT, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Defence Minister\u2019s arrival was welcomed by Pangdam IX\/Udayana\nMajor General TNI Piek Budyakto and his staff.<\/p>\n
During the visit, the Ministry of Defence together with the TNI also\nsent 20 tonnes of humanitarian aid from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base,\nJakarta, using an Airbus A400M aircraft to Labuan Bajo.<\/p>\n
Aster Kasdam IX\/Udayana Colonel Inf Yudi Riyanto Ratu said TNI\npersonnel have been on the ground since the first day of the earthquake\nto identify affected areas and gather data on community needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince the first day of the incident, TNI personnel from Kodam\nIX\/Udayana have been at the location to identify affected areas and\ngather data. We have also immediately carried out aid measures quickly,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
According to Yudi, basic necessities in the form of staple food\npackages have been distributed through Kodim units in affected areas.\nTNI personnel have also set up evacuation posts and health facilities,\nincluding providing medicines.<\/p>\n
\u201cStaple food aid by the Dandim has been running. Our personnel have\nalso set up evacuation posts, health facilities with medicine support,\nas well as field kitchens for affected communities,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
For victims who suffered injuries, the TNI carried out evacuations to\nthe nearest hospitals so they could receive medical treatment.<\/p>\n

He said public safety is the priority, followed by accelerating the\nevacuation of victims requiring medical assistance, meeting the basic\nneeds of evacuees and distributing aid quickly and on target.<\/p>\n
The arrival of the Defence Minister and the dispatch of 20 tonnes of\naid using an A400M aircraft are part of strengthening the government\u2019s\nresponse to the earthquake disaster in NTT.<\/p>\n
