        "content": "<p>TKW policy ignores MUI<\/p>\n<p>From Republika<\/p>\n<p>The government&apos;s policy on Indonesian women migrant workers<br>\n(TKW) has failed to consider the ruling issued by the Indonesian<br>\nUlema Council in 2000, despite the country&apos;s Muslim majority.<\/p>\n<p>In making decisions about TKWs, the government only takes into<br>\naccount of economic aspects of placement, while its consequences<br>\non individual workers, their families and the nation are<br>\napparently overlooked.<\/p>\n<p>Migrant workers get minimum protection abroad, almost none in<br>\nsome countries. TKW&apos;s education levels and ability to defend<br>\nthemselves are very low, whereas the placement system is<br>\ninadequate to enable them gain equal legal status.<\/p>\n<p>Under such circumstances, sending TKWs, particularly as<br>\ndomestic servants, still gives wide opportunity for the practice<br>\nof forced labor and slavery.<\/p>\n<p>ZUBAIDAH<br>\nJakarta<\/p>",
