Former Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Student Executive Board (BEM)\nchairman Tiyo Ardianto has responded casually to accusations that he is\nclose to or affiliated with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle\n(PDIP). The allegations were made by an alliance calling itself the BEM\nFakultas Bersatu, which criticised the student movement opposing\ngovernment programmes such as the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme,\nclaiming it was being driven by Tiyo and ridden by practical political\ninterests.<\/p>\n
Regarding the claims of closeness to certain parties, Tiyo stated\nthat people can engage in various forms of speculation. The final-year\nPhilosophy student at UGM asserted that his activism remains independent\nand he is not affiliated with any political party or figure. He\ndescribed himself as a free individual who simply wants the current\ngovernment to govern properly.<\/p>\n
The accusations of Tiyo\u2019s proximity to PDIP began after he posted\nabout a Toyota Fortuner he had used, which was fitted with a tracking\ndevice by unknown persons following his participation in the \u2018Rakyat\nMemanggil\u2019 protest in Gejayan, Yogyakarta, in mid-June 2026. The BEM\nFakultas Bersatu group linked the vehicle\u2019s origins to Siti Nuraeni, who\nis reportedly the younger sibling of retired Lieutenant General TNI\nMuhammad Setyo Sularso. Setyo Sularso is the in-law of retired General\nTNI Andika Perkasa, a prominent PDIP figure and former campaign team\nmember for Ganjar Pranowo.<\/p>\n
Tiyo clarified that the car was borrowed. He chose not to report the\ntracking device incident to the police, interpreting the easily\ndetectable tracker as a deliberate message that his movements were being\nmonitored. He declined to speculate on who was responsible, suggesting\nit could be the authorities or parties attempting to pit him against the\ngovernment. He said he ignores such matters, emphasising that the public\nshould see the incident as a warning sign for democracy, where those who\ncare about the nation are shadowed by danger. He added that reporting\nthe case would be too draining and disrupt his activism, especially as\nhe has encountered two such tracking attempts.<\/p>\n
Regarding the BEM Fakultas Bersatu\u2019s accusations of being co-opted by\npractical politics, Tiyo remained unfazed. He noted that he had only\njust become aware of the alliance and, upon checking the organisations\non campus, received information that not all of the 14 individuals in\nthe group are actually students. He questioned the credibility of people\nwho are dishonest about their own identity, stating that under legal\nprinciples, the accuser must provide proof.
