Indonesia's Minister of Home Affairs and Head of the National Border Management Agency, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has announced a government programme to renovate 15,000 uninhabitable homes in border regions across 17 provinces and 40 districts/cities. Initially allocated for 10,000 units, the programme was expanded following field assessments, aiming to enhance the welfare and nationalism of border communities while strengthening national defence as a 'buffer zone' against external threats. The initiative, supported by President Prabowo Subianto and the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, will use verified data from the Central Statistics Agency to ensure targeted aid, with hopes it will inspire further development in markets, docks, and education facilities.

Home Affairs Minister and Head of the National Border Management
Agency (BNPP), Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has revealed plans for the
Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme, or house
renovation initiative, in border areas. The programme will target 15,000
uninhabitable homes spread across 40 border districts/cities in 17
provinces.

Tito explained that the programme represents a concrete step by the
government to deliver justice to border communities, who have previously
been inadequately served.

“To improve the welfare of border communities so that they feel proud
of the nation, proud of the government, and nationalism will grow
stronger,” Tito stated in his remarks on Friday (24/4/2026).

According to him, enhancing the quality of life for border residents
will directly impact national resilience. Prosperous border areas will
serve as a strong ‘buffer zone’ in Indonesia’s defence system against
potential external infiltration.

Tito also expressed appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto and
the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) for their support of
the programme.

He noted that the initial allocation for house renovations in border
areas was around 10,000 units. However, this was later increased to
15,000 units following direct field reviews.

“So I am very grateful; this is perhaps the largest programme for the
BNPP since its establishment in 2010,” he said.

In its implementation, proposals for aid recipients will be verified
using the National Single Social and Economic Data (DTSEN) from the
Central Statistics Agency (BPS). This ensures the aid is properly
targeted, as DTSEN provides detailed data by name and address.

Furthermore, he hopes this programme will encourage other ministries
and agencies to introduce development initiatives in border areas, such
as building markets, docks, and educational facilities.

“I just want to illustrate how, with this programme in border areas,
it truly reaches them; they feel the presence of the state,” he
explained.

For information, also present on the occasion were PKP Minister
Maruarar Sirait (Ara), BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, and other
related officials.
",
