Titanic golf duel at Riverside<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Golfing buffs here will have the rare
\nopportunity to watch a world class duel between former world
\nnumber one Greg Norman of Australia and his predecessor England's
\nNick Price at the newly established Riverside Golf Club near
\nBogor.<\/p>\n
The two top golfers will play in a one-day exhibition
\ntournament over 18 holes on the layout designed by Norman at the
\npar-72 course on Feb. 1.<\/p>\n
\"This will be the first time that the world's leading players
\nhave faced each other in a match play event,\" a member of the
\norganizing committee said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The game is to celebrate the opening of Indonesia's latest
\ngolf link, the Riverside Golf Club, located 40 kilometers
\nsoutheast of the capital.<\/p>\n
Price, who gained the world's number one berth following his
\nvictory at the British Open and the U.S. PGA, will be keen to
\ndefend his position.<\/p>\n
Norman, who was number one prior to Price's win, will be
\nanxious to do well on the layout he designed.<\/p>\n
Dunhill Masters<\/p>\n
Apparently satisfied with the organizing success of the 1994
\nAlfred Dunhill Masters tournament at the Bali Golf and Country
\nClub, the leading English luxury goods company, confirmed that
\nthe 1995 Masters tourney would be played in Indonesia again from
\nNov. 2 to Nov. 5.<\/p>\n
\"The prize money will be increased from US$350,000 to
\n$400,000. It is our intention to build the Alfred Dunhill Masters
\ninto one of the most important and significant tournaments in
\nAsia,\" Richard Cole, the firm's Pacific managing director, said.<\/p>\n
The increase in prize money, he added, is one of the first
\nsteps towards achieving the goal. \"We would like the tournament
\nto remain in Indonesia this year. But, it's too early to announce
\nthe venue as we and the IMG, our partner in the event, currently
\nhave a number of different courses under consideration.\"<\/p>\n
The event, ranked among the richest in terms of cash prizes on
\noffer in Indonesia, will continue to be sanctioned by the PGA
\nAustralasian Tour, although both Alfred Dunhill and IMG have made
\nno secret of the fact that they would like to work towards a
\njoint sanction with the Asian Tour.(rsl)<\/p>",
