Timbul<br>\nSilaen said he was ready to stand trial before the human rights<br>\ntribunal for his alleged involvement in East Timor atrocities.<\/p>\n<p>The tribunal is due to start sitting on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Timbul's lawyer Palmer Situmorang said the genocide and crimes<br>\nagainst humanity charges laid against his client were weak.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will point out how weak the charges are in our formal<br>\nresponse once the charges have been read out in court,\" Palmer<br>\ntold reporters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The charges carry the death penalty if proven.<\/p>\n<p>A separate hearing for another defendant, former East Timor<br>\ngovernor Abilio Soares, will also take place on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>A four-member panel of judges, presided over by Judge Marni<br>\nEmy Mustafa, will try Abilio's case, while Judge Andi will<br>\npreside over Timbul's trial.<\/p>\n<p>A third hearing will likely involve five defendants, including<br>\nformer Covalima regent Herman Sedyono. - JP<\/p>",
