        "content": "<p>Timber firms operate again<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): At least 21 timber companies, which last month<br>\nwere suspended for their alleged involvement in forest fires, are<br>\nbeing allowed to resume operations again.<\/p>\n<p>The director for forest development at the Ministry of<br>\nForestry Soegeng Widodo said here yesterday that the 21<br>\ncompanies, which hold 45 wood-use permits, had proven that they<br>\nwere innocent.<\/p>\n<p>Soegeng said that the companies had fulfilled the ministry's<br>\nrequirements to provide sufficient proof that they carried out<br>\nland clearing without using a burning system.<\/p>\n<p>He said 36 of the 45 permits were issued for timber estates<br>\nand the remaining nine were for plantations.<\/p>\n<p>\"The suspension of several companies operating in<br>\ntransmigration sites could not be lifted because they could not<br>\nprove that they were innocent,\" he said.
