        "content": "<p>Timber companies go bankrupt<\/p>\n<p>SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Over the past five years, 58 of 103<br>\ncompanies with forest concessions have gone bankrupt because of<br>\nillegal logging, an executive at a timber company association<br>\nsaid on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Uuh Aliyudin, an executive at the Indonesian Timber Company<br>\nAssociation, said the companies could not compete with those<br>\nparties that were profiting from illegal logging.<\/p>\n<p>\"They sell the illegally cut logs at low prices that drive the<br>\nlegitimate companies out of business. The logs can be sold at<br>\nlower prices because those irresponsible parties do not<br>\nnecessarily pay reforestation funds and other bureaucratic<br>\nexpenses,\" said Aliyudin.<\/p>\n<p>Aliyudin said illegal logging was out of control in East<br>\nKalimantan because the demand for logs in the country had been so<br>\nhigh over the past few years. -- JP<\/p>",
