Tight security at Trisakti graduation<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Hordes of police officers guarded the Jakarta
\nConvention Center on Saturday during the Trisakti University
\ngraduation ceremony after rumors circulated that technical high-
\nschool students would disrupt the convocation.<\/p>\n
Students from a technical high school in Central Jakarta were
\nrumored to have planned to crash the ceremony in retaliation for
\nthe beating of some of their colleagues by students of the city's
\nbiggest private university earlier this month. The graduation
\nceremony proceeded smoothly.<\/p>\n
One police officer said they were assigned to guard the
\nbuilding after the Central Jakarta police precinct received an
\nanonymous letter stating that hundreds of the technical high
\nschool students would revenge the beatings.<\/p>\n
University student Rachmad Chandra was stabbed by a group of
\ntechnical high school students on April 17. Hundreds of the
\nuniversity students then waylaid buses passing the university on
\nJl. Kyai Tapa in West Jakarta, thrashing any high school student
\non the buses.<\/p>\n
Similar clashes occurred at the university's East Jakarta
\ncampus on Jl. Ahmad Yani the following day. The university's
\nstudents chased down and beat up several high school students.<\/p>\n
University rector Moedanton Moertedjo could not be reached for
