Tigers terrorize villagers in Jambi<\/p>\n
JAMBI, Jambi: Police here said on Thursday they are hunting at
\nleast five Sumatra tigers that are terrorizing villagers from
\nSungai Asam in the Kerinci regency.<\/p>\n
Kerinci Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Edi Purwanto said a search
\nwas underway after police and staff from the Kerinci Seblat
\nNational Park discovered traces of at least five tigers near the
\nvillage, some 410 kilometers from Jambi city.<\/p>\n
"The group of tigers has reportedly injured several villagers
\nworking at a plantation and now local residents are afraid of go
\nto work there again," he said.<\/p>\n
Edi said the tigers (Panthera tigris Sumatrae) had left the
\nnational park due to continued illegal logging and the subsequent
\nloss of habitat.<\/p>\n
He said the police would use tranquilizer to repatriate the
\ntigers in the national park.<\/p>\n
Last month, two tigers were also found roaming at Sungai
\nJernih and Sungaining villages in Sungai Penuh subdistrict. They
