Thuggery at 'Indopos'<\/p>\n

On Dec. 20, the editorial office of Indopos newspaper in
\nKebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, was attacked by a group of 20
\npeople. The attackers brutally beat the journalists of the
\nnewspaper (for reporting on gangster activity in the Tanah Abang
\narea of Jakarta).<\/p>\n
In response to the violence, the Central Board of the
\nIndonesian Journalists (PWI) stated as follows.<\/p>\n
* PWI strongly condemned the violent action against members of
\nthe mass media, including the attack on the Indopos office, in
\nwhich five reporters were tortured.<\/p>\n
* PWI appealed to the society or whoever feels disadvantaged
\nby a press report to use their right to reply in compliance with
\nthe Press Law, and not take the law into their hands.<\/p>\n
* PWI called on all press communities, particularly the
\nreporters, to enhance their professionalism by giving more
\nconsideration of the press code of ethics and the supremacy of
\nlaw.<\/p>\n
PWI appealed to the law enforcers, particularly the police, to
\nthoroughly investigate the case and sanction the attackers in
\naccordance with the existing law.<\/p>\n
