Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that the cause of injuries to three\nIndonesian National Army (TNI) personnel following an explosion near El\nAdeisse in southern Lebanon is still under investigation. The three TNI\nsoldiers, who are part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon\n(UNIFIL), sustained injuries after an explosion hit a UN facility area\non Friday evening, 3 April 2026.<\/p>\n
This attack on the UNIFIL peacekeeping area marks the third incident\nin one week. The latest incident adds to Indonesia\u2019s grief, following\nthe loss of three personnel in Lebanon previously.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast night, I also received a report that three TNI soldiers were\ninjured, and the cause is similar to the two previous incidents, which\nis still being investigated by UNIFIL,\u201d Sugiono said at Soekarno-Hatta\nAirport in Tangerang on Saturday, 4 April 2026, quoted from a video\nstatement by the Presidential Secretariat.<\/p>\n
Sugiono explained that after the first incident, Indonesia, through\nits permanent representative in New York, requested the UN Security\nCouncil to hold an extraordinary meeting. The request was subsequently\napproved by France as the holder of the Lebanon issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt that time, France, as the penholder for Lebanon matters in the\nSecurity Council, approved the holding of an extraordinary meeting, the\nessence of which was, first, we strongly condemn the attacks carried out\nagainst the peacekeepers, in this case UNIFIL,\u201d Sugiono said.<\/p>\n
In addition, Indonesia demanded a thorough investigation and security\nguarantees for peacekeeping forces. This is because forces like UNIFIL\nare tasked with peacekeeping missions, not combat operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThings like this, well, if we say it shouldn\u2019t happen, it shouldn\u2019t\nhappen, but the fact is it does. There must be a security guarantee for\nthe peacekeeping soldiers because they are keeping the peace. They are\npeace-keeping, not peace-making,\u201d said the Gerindra Party\npolitician.<\/p>\n
UNIFIL representatives reported that three peacekeepers were injured\ndue to an explosion near El Adeisse in southern Lebanon on Friday, 3\nApril 2026. The three personnel are TNI soldiers serving in the global\npeacekeeping mission.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do not yet know the origin of the explosion,\u201d said UNIFIL\nspokesperson Kandice Ardiel in her statement through the UN information\ncentre team in Indonesia on Saturday, 4 April 2026.<\/p>\n
Two of the three TNI soldiers hit by the artillery attack sustained\nserious injuries. However, representatives from the UN information\ncentre in Indonesia stated that both have received medical treatment at\na civilian hospital and are now in stable condition.<\/p>\n
Kandice Ardiel said the past week has been a difficult time for\npeacekeepers serving in the central area of UNIFIL\u2019s operational region.\nShe urged all parties to commit to ensuring the safety and security of\nthe peacekeepers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIncluding by avoiding combat activities nearby that could endanger\nthe peacekeepers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
As reported by Spacewar, Lebanon was drawn into the West Asian war on\n2 March 2026, when Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel in retaliation\nfor a US-Israel attack on Iran that killed Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader\nAyatollah Ali Khamenei. Nevertheless, Israel had attacked Lebanon\nthousands of times before 2 March, even after a ceasefire with Hezbollah\nwas agreed in November 2024.<\/p>\n

The day after, another explosion in southern Lebanon resulted in the\ndeaths of two TNI soldiers. The two victims were Captain Inf Zulmi\nAditya Iskandar and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan.
