Three-tier transit system proposed for revised plans<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A company planning to build a three-tier transit
\nsystem will approach the city administration to try to include
\nthe project in the revised urban spatial plan, the company's
\nspokesperson said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Head of the Citra Group public relations department, M. Fariza
\nY. Irawady, said the company would present the plan to the City's
\nSpatial Agency tomorrow.<\/p>\n
The group set up a joint venture, PT Citramoda Margakencana
\nPersada, to build the Rp 6.05 trillion (US$2.58 billion) project
\nlast month.<\/p>\n
After establishing the company Fariza said, \"...there are
\nseveral stages to be done before the project can be included in
\nthe revised spatial plan.\"<\/p>\n
He was responding to a presentation Friday of the revised
\n1985\/2010 spatial plan which did not include the widely
\npublicized three-tier transit system.<\/p>\n
The system includes an elevated railway with a capacity of
\n12,000 passengers an hour, connecting Bintaro in South Jakarta to
\ndowntown Kota, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The company consists of PT Citra Lamtoro Gung Persada -- owned
\nby Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana -- state railway company Perumka and
\nthe state-owned highway corporation PT Jasa Marga.<\/p>\n
Fariza said the company was aware of regulations that the
\nproject should be included in the revised spatial plans before it
\ncould start construction.<\/p>\n
The new spatial plans have to be approved by Governor Surjadi
\nSoedirdja, City Council Speaker M.H. Ritonga and Minister of Home
\nAffairs Moch. Yogie S.M.<\/p>\n
Fariza said the three-tier transit system would be built
\naccording to the initial schedule in December this year.
\nConstruction work is due to start in Bintaro, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Councilor Lukman F. Mokoginta of Commission D in charge of
\ndevelopment affairs had said revision of the spatial plans would
\ntake a long time. The city would have to take various
\nconsiderations into account including the project's effect on its
\nsurroundings, he said.<\/p>\n
Lukman also blamed city administration for not including the
\nproject in the revised plans if it considered the proposal
\nimportant to the city.<\/p>\n
Fariza said the company was now presenting the project to
\nprospective banks.<\/p>\n
\"The (banks) will be announced soon after their involvement in
\nthe project is confirmed,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The city's assistant secretary on economic and development
\naffairs, Prawoto S. Danoemihardjo, said earlier that a team had
\nbeen set up to handle land appropriation for the project.<\/p>\n
Land appropriation for the project was expected to be
\ncompleted in July while the project would be completed by 2001,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Prawoto said the amount to be paid for land compensation has
\nnot yet been determined, but it would likely be based on the
\ncity-set land value in the area.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, head of the North Jakarta Reclamation
\nImplementation Board M. Sidharta said the project was ready to
\nsupport the area's rapid growth as anticipated in the revised
\nspatial plan.<\/p>\n
\"We have completed the project's detailed plan including
\nconstruction and reclamation stages,\" Sidharta said yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said the board was still completing the project's regional
\nenvironmental impact study.<\/p>\n
The plan consists of business, residential, recreational and
\ntourist attractions stretching 32 kilometers along the Jakarta
\nBay, from Pluit in the west to Cilincing in the east. (ste)<\/p>",
