        "content": "<p>Three soldiers get posthumous promotion<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Greater Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen.<br>\nSutiyoso promoted posthumously yesterday three soldiers by one<br>\ngrade who died on duty during the election campaigns in the city<br>\nfrom April 27 to May 23.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso said the three promoted soldiers were Sgt. Maj.<br>\nMargiono, First Pvt. Mansur and Second Pvt. Supriyanto.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The three soldiers had dedicated their lives to safeguarding<br>\nthe campaigns, and were beneficial in their duties. We are very<br>\nproud of them,&quot; Sutiyoso said in a military ceremony at the<br>\nMilitary Command Headquarters in East Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Military Command Spokesman Lt. Col. DJ. Nachrowi said the<br>\nthree officers had died after being treated for serious injuries<br>\nat Ridwan Meureksa Military Command Hospital in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Nachrowi said Margiono, who worked as an intelligence officer<br>\nwith the military command, was injured in a riot in Bekasi.<\/p>\n<p>Mansur, who was an officer of a cavalry battalion in the<br>\nmilitary command, was injured in another riot in Tangerang, while<br>\nSupriyanto, who was a military police officer, was injured in a<br>\nriot in Matraman, East Jakarta, Nachrowi said.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso said riots that erupted during the campaign period<br>\nshould be remembered and should awaken people who have not yet<br>\nrealized Indonesian democratic life, which is based on Pancasila.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Our investigations show that the riots were provoked by a<br>\nhandful of people, who claimed to act in the name of democracy,&quot;<br>\nhe said, &quot;but actually they destroyed public facilities with the<br>\nultimate intention of disrupting the 1997 general election.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The Armed Forces, especially Jakarta Military Command, will<br>\nnot tolerate threats against people&apos;s freedom, he said. &quot;We will<br>\nfurther improve professionalism by ensuring stability of the<br>\ncapital city,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso ordered all soldiers to continue improving their<br>\nvigilance and to prepare for their next duty: safeguarding the<br>\nHouse of Representatives&apos; General Assembly next March.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged the public to help maintain security in<br>\nneighborhoods. &quot;Don&apos;t hesitate to report to the nearest Vigilance<br>\nCommand Post at a local military district command whenever there<br>\nare signs of an emerging riot,&quot; he said.
