Three scientists win Habibie Award<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Three scientists were awarded on Wednesday the
\nHabibie Award by the Human Resources Development Foundation for
\ntheir achievements in science and technology.<\/p>\n
The three scientists were Bambang Hidayat, Sangkot Marzuki,
\nand I Made Bandem.<\/p>\n
Bambang, who is now working for the Boscha Observatorium in
\nBandung, West Java, won the Habibie Award for science.<\/p>\n
Sangkot, a senior lecturer at the Medical Faculty of the
\nUniversity of Indonesia, was given the award for biotechnology
\nand medical science.<\/p>\n
Made Bandem, a lecturer at the Yogyakarta Institute of Fine
\nArt (ISRI), won the award for philosophy, art, and culture.<\/p>\n
Each recipient of the award received a medal, a certificate
\nand funds worth US$25,000, which was handed over by the
\nfoundation supervisory board chairman Malik Fadjar.<\/p>\n
The jury for the award includes the former Minister of
\nEducation, Wardiman Djojonegoro. -- Antara<\/p>\n

JAKARTA: At least 151 companies have registered themselves to
\nparticipate in the tender to produce ballot boxes for the 2004
\nelections, the General Elections Commission (KPU) says.<\/p>\n
Six of them -- PT Asgarindo Utama, PT Survindo Indah Prestasi,
\nPT Maspion, PT Pudak Scientific, PT Phon Deang, and PT Pranamuda
\nRaya Mandiri -- presented their proposed specifications for the
\nballot boxes on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Mulyana W. Kusumah said KPU would soon decide the type of
\nballot boxes and select the best option from the registered
\ncompanies.<\/p>\n
The 2004 elections may require more than 2 million ballot
\nboxes, according to KPU.<\/p>\n
The production of ballot boxes for the next elections is
\nexpected to be completed at the end of this year at the latest.
