SEMARANG \u2014 Ronny Maryanto, Secretary of the Regional Committee for\nInvestigation and Eradication of Corruption, Collusion, and Nepotism\n(KP2KKN) for Central Java province, has raised concerns about the\nextensive sting operations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Commission\n(KPK) across the region. He characterises these operations as evidence\nthat governance in Central Java remains unstable.<\/p>\n
Ronny pointed to the arrest of three regents in Central Java within\nthe past three months through KPK sting operations. \u201cWe call this the\nKPK hat-trick. First was Pati Regent Sudewo, then Pekalongan Regent, and\nmost recently Cilacap Regent. This demonstrates that the KPK\u2019s\noperations in Central Java have been quite extensive,\u201d he stated during\nan interview on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, we consider governance in Central Java, given that it has\nbecome the focus of KPK scrutiny, to be unstable,\u201d Ronny added.<\/p>\n
Given this instability, Ronny believes the risk of further arrests of\nlocal leaders in Central Java remains very high. \u201cIt is likely that\nbefore long, another sting operation will occur in another area of\nCentral Java. The KPK continues to monitor and surveil governance in the\nregion, which suggests there are vulnerabilities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Ronny, the arrest of three regents in Central Java by\nthe KPK is already a concerning situation. \u201cThere is a real possibility\nthat this could happen repeatedly, which is why we characterise Central\nJava as unstable,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
He noted that at the district and city administration level, the\ngovernor\u2019s authority is severely limited and unable to intervene\ndirectly. In terms of corruption prevention measures, Ronny believes\ngovernors must serve as exemplary role models for local leaders within\ntheir provinces.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeyond that, what governors can do is appeal to and continuously\nremind the regents and mayors under their authority,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On 19 January 2026, the KPK conducted a sting operation against Pati\nRegent Sudewo. More than a month later, on 3 March 2026, the KPK carried\nout another sting operation against Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq.
