The Palembang city government in South Sumatra has identified three\nsub-districts in its territory as experiencing a severe clean water\ncrisis. The condition has been triggered by a prolonged dry season that\nhas affected the region over recent weeks.<\/p>\n
Palembang Mayor Ratu Dewa revealed that the three areas of primary\nconcern are Sukarami, Sematang Borang, and Jakabaring sub-districts. He\nmade the remarks during a coordination meeting on forest and land fire\nmitigation, haze, and drought management in Palembang on Monday\n(25\/8).<\/p>\n
In response to residents\u2019 difficulties in obtaining clean water\nsources, the Palembang city government has prepared emergency measures.\nRatu Dewa stated that his administration is working with the Tirta Musi\nregional water company and the Housing, Settlement Areas, and Land\nAffairs Agency to distribute aid.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will arrange the provision of clean water tanks in the three\nsub-districts. Distribution will be scheduled based on time and the most\nurgent needs of residents,\u201d said Ratu Dewa.<\/p>\n
Beyond the water crisis, the threat of land fires and haze is also a\npriority for the local government. The mayor has instructed all\nsub-district governments in Palembang to immediately establish forest\nand land fire alert posts.<\/p>\n
The Palembang Fire and Rescue Service has also been asked to keep\nfire engine fleets on standby, particularly in locations considered\nprone to land fires.<\/p>\n
The deteriorating air quality caused by haze has begun to affect the\neducation sector and public services. The Palembang city government has\nissued an advisory prohibiting schools from holding outdoor activities,\nincluding flag ceremonies. Similar rules also apply to civil servants\nwithin the Palembang city government.<\/p>\n
