Three nabbed for selling fake oil, fuel<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Military Police yesterday arrested a
\nserviceman and two civilians in Bekasi for allegedly producing
\nand selling fake lubricant oil and diesel fuel.<\/p>\n
The chief of the military police, Col. Hendardji, said his
\npersonnel also confiscated five petrol trucks, 120 drums
\n(containing 30,000 liters) of oil, five mixing machines and
\nseveral printing machines.<\/p>\n
He identified the alleged culprits as Hutapea, Hutabarat and a
\nmarine First Sgt. Suroso.<\/p>\n
\"The three suspects are still being questioned here,\"
\nHendardji said at the Jakarta Military Police headquarters on Jl.
\nGuntur in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"The two civilians will be sent later to the Bekasi Police
\nprecinct for further investigation.\"<\/p>\n
Preliminary investigations had suggested that Hutapea had
\nbought the diesel fuel from the state-owned oil company PT
\nPertamina and mixed it with kerosene before selling the
\nsubstitute diesel fuel to shops in Bekasi.<\/p>\n
Hutapea allegedly admitted to running the business for almost
\n20 years, Hendardji said.<\/p>\n
Separately, Hutabarat, who ran an illegal business with his
\nserviceman counterpart, Suroso, allegedly admitted to mixing and
\nselling phony lubrication oil bearing the brand names Shell, Esso
\nand Mesran-Pertamina for almost one and a half years, he said.<\/p>\n
Sgt. Suroso was arrested while driving a military truck loaded
\nwith drums of the lubrication oil in Bekasi.<\/p>\n
It was still unknown how the serviceman managed to use the
\nmilitary truck for transporting the oil.<\/p>\n
Hendardji said Suroso would be court-martialled and fired if
\nproven guilty.<\/p>\n
Hendardji said police were tipped-off by a local resident who
\ndialed 122 at the Alert Center, which was set up by the Jakarta
\nMilitary Command last year.<\/p>\n
\"I hope more people would call us via 122 if they see any
\ncrimes, especially incidents involving military officers,\" he
