Three men arrested over Klender homemade bombs<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The military confirmed yesterday reports that
\nthree men were arrested in Klender, East Jakarta, over the
\nweekend on charges of making bombs and plotting a political
\nmaneuver.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Military Command spokesman Lt. Col. DJ. Nachrowi said
\nthe military suspects the three are linked to an alleged bomb
\nmaker who was arrested in an apartment in Tanah Tinggi, Central
\nJakarta, in January.<\/p>\n
\"These three men, just like the one arrested in Tanah Tinggi,
\nwere allegedly members of the banned youth organization People's
\nDemocratic Party (PRD),\" Nachrowi said.<\/p>\n
Nachrowi declined to name the three suspects.<\/p>\n
On Jan. 18, security officers arrested Agus Priyono at his
\nrented room in a Tanah Tinggi apartment block and seized books,
\ndocuments, diskettes, dozens of unfinished handmade bombs and
\nmaterials believed to be used to make bombs.<\/p>\n
The government banned the PRD last year and the group's senior
\nleaders have been jailed on charges of subverting the state and
\nattempting to topple the government.<\/p>\n
Nachrowi said the three in Klender were arrested by his
\npersonnel on Friday night after a resident's tip-off.<\/p>\n
Neighborhood chief Sucipto said the three were arrested in
\ntheir home on the apartment's second floor.<\/p>\n
\"Dozens of plain-clothed intelligence agents came here that
\nday, asking for information on the men,\" he told reporters
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
Sucipto said one of the accused was arrested around 5:30 p.m
\nand the other two at around 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
\"I heard that one of the two men possessed an Indonesian
\npassport under the name of Sugianto,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said the agents had seized documents and bags containing
\nremote control devices, chemical ingredients and handmade
\nexplosives.<\/p>\n
\"I don't know exactly how many bombs were found in the room.
\nAll I know is that the bombs shaped were like cubes,\" he said.<\/p>\n
According to Sucipto, a fourth man also lives in the same room
\nbut he did not come home on Friday.<\/p>\n
Sucipto said he did not know the names of the four because
\nthey had not reported themselves to him, although they had lived
\nin the room for 10 days.<\/p>\n
He said the room was owned by a doctor named Erli who had
\nmoved to Tangerang.<\/p>\n
\"As far as I know, the doctor has never met these men because
\nthey made the rent deal through the apartment management,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Sucipto said he and the other residents were shocked when the
\nagents raided the apartment and took the three away.<\/p>\n
\"We never thought they would become involved in crime or have
\nbombs in their room. We never suspected them because they looked
\nvery nice and polite,\" he said.<\/p>\n
According to Nachrowi, the case and the three suspects had
\nbeen transferred to the City Police headquarters. \"The police are
\nnow investigating the case,\" he said.<\/p>\n
City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang, however, said
\nyesterday that he had not been informed about the matter and
