Three killed in Aceh latest violence<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh (JP): At least three people, including one
\npolice officer, died in the latest violence in Pidie and North
\nAceh regencies on Saturday, a police officer said.<\/p>\n
Police Deputy Chief Supt. Yatim Suyatmo of the Cinta Meunasah
\nspecial operation said one police officer, identified as Second
\nSgt. Hery Sutiono, was shot dead when alleged members of the Free
\nAceh Movement (GAM) ambushed a police convoy in Tong Pria
\nvillage, Mutiara district, Pidie regency on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
He added that a few hours later, in Blang Mangki village,
\nSimpang Tiga district, Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officers
\nwere forced to shoot dead an alleged GAM member, identified as
\nKarmuddin, after he and his colleagues, who were at a food stall,
\nrefused a police order to stop for questioning.<\/p>\n
Separately, GAM spokesman in Pidie regency Abu Razak said on
\nSaturday evening that GAM were compelled to attack the Brimob
\nofficers in Tong Pria village in retaliation for a police raid on
\nthe GAM headquarters in Tiro subdistrict.<\/p>\n
Razak claimed that GAM had wounded six police officers in the
\nincident.<\/p>\n
\"It was a sort of punishment because they (the security
\nforces) have repeatedly violated the Humanitarian Pause by such
\nactions as raiding our headquarters,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He questioned the police's mission in Blang Mangki village,
\nwhich had resulted in the death of Karmuddin and the arrest of
\nhis accomplices by the police.<\/p>\n
\"They were all unarmed civilians. What was the police's
\nmission exactly in attacking local residents at a food stall?\"
\nRazak said.<\/p>\n
Earlier on the same day, Suyatmo said, a homemade bomb
\nexploded in Kudrang village, Mila district, Pidie regency as a
\ntruckload of police was passing through the village on its way to
\nthe local police subprecinct office.<\/p>\n
\"No fatalities were reported, but the explosion damaged the
\nfront part of the truck,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Suyatmo added that in North Aceh, the police also shot dead an
\nalleged GAM member, named Muhammad Isa, in Paloh Kayee Kuryet,
\nNisam district.<\/p>\n
However, the officer did not disclose the grounds for the
\nshooting of the alleged GAM member.<\/p>\n
Separately, North Aceh GAM commander Abu Sofyan Daud confirmed
\nthat one out of a total of 12 GAM guerrillas was shot dead in a
\ngunfight between GAM and the police, but claimed that the
\nguerrillas had killed at least six police officers. (50\/lup)<\/p>",
