Three in chopper crash feared dead<\/p>\n
Three of five military officers aboard the ill-
\nfated Army helicopter Bell 205 are feared dead as the chopper
\nexploded after it crashed in Paniai regency, Papua.<\/p>\n
Spokesman for Papua's Trikora Military Command, Maj. G.P.
\nSitumorang, said on Monday that the rescue team would continue
\nthe search, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Two officers were found alive. They were Second Lt. Ikhwan and
\nSecond Lt. Teddy Prabowo.<\/p>\n
Both suffered injuries in the crash and were rushed to the
\nFreeport hospital Mitra Masyarakat in Timika, Situmorang said.<\/p>\n
The two survivors were flown to Jakarta on Monday to receive
\ntreatment at Gatot Subroto Army hospital.<\/p>\n
According to Ikhwan, the incident occurred when the
\nhelicopter, carrying equipment from Timika to Enarotali, the
\ncapital town of Paniai Regency, experienced turbulence.<\/p>\n
The pilot Second Lt. Yadi tried to control the helicopter and
\nreturn to Timika but the helicopter crashed with its rear end
\nentangled in the trees. Only Ikhwan and Teddy Prabowo managed to
\nget out of the helicopter before it exploded.<\/p>\n
\"So, our temporary belief is that the three are dead, but we
\nare still waiting for the result of the search and rescue
\noperation,\" said Situmorang.<\/p>\n
Besides pilot Yadi, the other two missing passengers are
\nmechanics Sgt. Marsito and Chief Sgt. Keman.<\/p>\n
Rescue efforts, he added, were hampered by bad weather, making
\nit difficult to reach the crash site.<\/p>",
