The Acting Head of the Data and Information Centre of the National\nDisaster Management Agency (BNPB), Berton SP Panjaitan, stated that\nJapan is sending helicopter assistance to Indonesia to aid in the\nmanagement of forest and land fires (karhutla). The helicopters are\nscheduled to arrive in the country on 10 September 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding the cooperation between Indonesia and Japan concerning the\nhelicopter assistance, three helicopters will arrive shortly. We have\nreceived information that they will arrive here on the 10th, and we\ncertainly welcome this cooperation,\u201d said Berton during a press\nconference broadcast via BNPB\u2019s official YouTube channel on Monday\n(31\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Berton noted that discussions between Indonesia and Japan regarding\nthe deployment of this fire-fighting equipment have already taken place.\nHowever, he could not yet specify the intended locations for the\naircraft or the duration of their use.<\/p>\n
\u201cInitial discussions have certainly been conducted. We will continue\nto consolidate our plans until the aircraft arrive in Indonesia and\nbegin operations,\u201d said Bertumn.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs for how long and where, we will receive further information so\nthat we can provide accurate updates. At this moment, we do not have\nmore detailed information,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Berton also detailed the development of hotspots and fire points\nacross six provinces currently affected by forest fires. An increase in\nfire points was observed in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and\nSouth Kalimantan.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can see that in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South\nKalimantan, the number of hotspots is relatively increasing. In West\nKalimantan, the increase is significant, while in South Kalimantan and\nCentral Kalimantan, it is relatively decreasing,\u201d said Berton.<\/p>\n
He noted that the number of fire points in these three\nprovinces\u2014West, Central, and South Kalimantan\u2014has relatively risen, with\nvisibility reduced to less than 1 to 2 kilometres.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, looking at the fire point data, we found an increase in\nfire points in these three provinces, and visibility is approximately 1\nto 2 kilometres,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in the provinces of Riau, South Sumatra, and Jambi, fire\npoints have relatively decreased. However, hotspots in South Sumatra\nincreased by 209, bringing the total to 1,013.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Riau and Jambi, hotspots have decreased significantly.
