The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) in West Java has announced varying fitrah zakat amounts across 27 municipalities and districts, ranging from Rp 32,500 to Rp 50,000 per person. Bogor District, Bekasi City, and Cianjur District have the highest rates at Rp 50,000, determined based on local rice prices in each region and set in consultation with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and local Islamic councils. The agency expects slightly higher zakat collection this year due to increased unemployment and economic challenges.

The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of West Java has issued a circular
regarding fitrah zakat amounts across districts and municipalities. The
zakat measure per person is 2.5 kilogrammes or 3.5 litres of staple
goods, specifically rice. Its monetary value varies across different
regions.

According to Nana Sudiana, Deputy Chairman IV of Baznas West Java,
the agency itself has set fitrah zakat at Rp 40,000 per person. This
amount resulted from consultation between Baznas West Java with the
Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Indonesian Ulama Council.

“The amount is relatively the same as last year; we base our
benchmark on the average price of rice in West Java,” he said on Monday,
2 March 2026.

In circular number 085/BAZNAS-JABAR/II/2026, a list of fitrah zakat
amounts across 27 municipalities and districts in West Java is listed.
The zakat amounts vary, although some regions have identical figures.
According to Nana, the figures have been established in Baznas decision
letters from each region following deliberations with city and district
governments, regional Islamic councils, and the regional Ministry of
Religious Affairs, to examine local food prices. “Then a decision is
made regarding the monetary equivalent,” said Nana.

In the list, three regions have relatively high fitrah zakat figures:
Bogor District, Bekasi City, and Cianjur, at Rp 50,000. Specifically for
Cianjur, it is divided into two options: fitrah zakat equivalent to
regular rice at Rp 37,000 or pandanwangi rice at Rp 50,000. “In each
city and district, the amounts follow the rice prices in their
respective areas,” said Nana.

In Bandung District, fitrah zakat is set at Rp 37,500; West Bandung
District at Rp 40,500; Bekasi District at Rp 45,500; Ciamis District at
Rp 37,500; Cirebon District at Rp 39,000. Meanwhile, Garut District is
set at Rp 40,500; Indramayu District at Rp 37,500; Karawang District at
Rp 42,000; Kuningan District at Rp 35,000; Majalengka District at Rp
40,000; and Pangandaran at Rp 32,500.

Fitrah zakat amounts in Purwakarta is set at Rp 45,000; Subang
District at Rp 37,000; Sukabumi District at Rp 35,000; Sumedang District
at Rp 40,000; and Tasikmalaya District at Rp 37,000. Meanwhile, in
Bandung City it is Rp 42,500; Banjar City at Rp 32,500; Bogor City at Rp
45,000; Cimahi City at Rp 40,000; Cirebon City, Depok City, and Sukabumi
City all at Rp 45,000; and Tasikmalaya City at Rp 37,500.

In determining the fitrah zakat value, according to Nana, the
determination follows the Indonesian Ulama Council’s guidance based on
the best quality rice used in daily community life. “Not taking premium
rice prices or the lowest, but the rice most commonly used by the
general population,” he said.

Nana stated that fitrah zakat payments are intended for Muslim
families who, based on their financial capacity, still have food and
drink reserves to support their families. Fitrah zakat must be paid
before Eid al-Fitr. Those who do not meet such conditions or have tight
living circumstances can be classified as fitrah zakat recipients.

Distribution of fitrah zakat to those entitled can be in the form of
rice or its monetary equivalent. Considering economic conditions not
significantly different from last year, according to Nana, the estimate
for collected fitrah zakat this year is slightly higher. “There has been
an increase in employment terminations this year, many businesses have
not been particularly successful, coupled with the global situation
which also presents many issues; it is likely that the number of zakat
recipients this year will increase significantly compared to the
previous year.”
",
