Three of the seven parties in the governing coalition in the House of\nRepresentatives have said they have yet to decide whether to back\nPresident Prabowo Subianto again in the 2029 presidential election.<\/p>\n
Demokrat, PKS and NasDem said they had not discussed their support\nfor the 2029 election. All three said they remained focused on\ndelivering the government\u2019s priority programmes through to 2029.<\/p>\n
Demokrat Strategic Communications Agency head Herzaky Mahendra Putra\nsaid there would be an appropriate time to discuss support for a\npresidential candidate in 2029. For now, he said, the party\u2019s chairman,\nAgus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), was focused on his duties as\nCoordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst, we have never discussed presidential and vice-presidential\ncandidates for 2029, because our chairman, Mr AHY, is focused on the\nassignment entrusted to us by President Prabowo in government,\u201d Herzaky\ntold reporters on Saturday (10 October), as quoted by detikcom.<\/p>\n
PKS Secretary-General Muhammad Kholid said that decisions on support\nin the 2029 presidential election fell under the authority of the\nparty\u2019s Syuro Council. The council has not made a decision, he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Syuro Council\u2019s deliberation decided that PKS would support\nPresident Prabowo Subianto\u2019s government and help it succeed through to\n2029,\u201d Kholid said when contacted on Monday (12 October).<\/p>\n
\u201cAs for the 2029 presidential election, the Syuro Council\u2019s\ndeliberation has not reached a decision,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Kholid said PKS was currently focused on overseeing several of the\ngovernment\u2019s strategic programmes. He said this was part of a commitment\nand responsibility that had to be fulfilled.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe should fulfil this responsibility as well as we can first. There\nwill be a time to decide our position on the 2029 presidential\nelection,\u201d Kholid said.<\/p>\n
NasDem Secretary-General Hermawi Taslim gave a similar response,\nsaying the party had not taken a position on support for the 2029\nelection.<\/p>\n
Hermawi said the question of support was still under consideration,\nand that the process would begin after the stages of the 2029\u20132034\nelection cycle got under way.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is still being considered, pending the start of the 2029\u20132034\nelection stages,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Three parties declare support<\/strong><\/p>\n Meanwhile, three other parties, excluding Gerindra, which is led by\nPrabowo, have declared that they will back the President again in 2029.\nGolkar deputy chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia said his party had long ago\ndecided to nominate Prabowo Subianto as its presidential candidate for\nthe 2029 election.<\/p>\n Golkar has not yet decided who would run as Prabowo\u2019s\nvice-presidential candidate. Doli said the choice would ultimately also\ntake into account the decision of Prabowo, as the party\u2019s presidential\nnominee.<\/p>\n \u201cSince the end of 2024, Golkar\u2019s position has been clear. For the\n2029 presidential election, we already have a candidate: Mr Prabowo,\u201d\nDoli said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday (8\nOctober).<\/p>\n PAN deputy chairman Viva Yoga Mauladi said there was no need to\nquestion PAN\u2019s position on backing Prabowo again. He said the question\nshould instead be directed at parties that had yet to make up their\nminds.<\/p>\n \u201cThat position was formally stated by PAN chairman Zulkifli Hasan at\nthe party\u2019s 2025 National Working Meeting,\u201d Viva said when contacted on\nMonday (12 October).<\/p>\n PKB deputy chairman Faisol Reza said Prabowo deserved to continue\nleading the government. Faisol said the party\u2019s reasoning was that a\nnumber of strategic government programmes had been implemented\neffectively, including free nutritious meals, the Merah Putih village\ncooperatives and people\u2019s schools.<\/p>\n Reza hoped Prabowo would not assume that the public no longer\nsupported him for the 2029 election. He urged people to express their\nsupport, either directly or through political parties.<\/p>\n \u201cPKB supports Prabowo Subianto\u2019s re-election as a presidential\ncandidate 100 per cent, or even 1,000 per cent, because he is highly\ndeserving of leading Indonesia for a second term,\u201d Faisol said, as\nquoted by detikcom on Monday (12 October).<\/p>\n Gerindra\u2019s response<\/strong><\/p>\n Gerindra spokesperson Sugiat Santoso praised the parties that had\ndeclared their support for Prabowo. He said Gerindra\u2019s grassroots\nmembership also wanted Prabowo to run for president again in 2029.<\/p>\n However, Sugiat said the choice of vice-presidential candidate would\nbe Prabowo\u2019s decision, to be made at the last minute. He said he could\nnot yet say who would be the right candidate.<\/p>\n \u201cIn principle, we appreciate and thank our fellow parties for their\nprayers and support for Mr Prabowo in the 2029 presidential election,\u201d\nSugiat Santoso told reporters on Saturday (10 October), as quoted by\ndetikcom.<\/p>",
