Norwegian police have confirmed the arrest of three men, brothers, in\nconnection with an explosion that struck the gates of the US Embassy in\nOslo last Sunday. The three are suspected of involvement in an attack\nusing improvised explosive devices.<\/p>\n
Norwegian Police Prosecutor Christian Hatlo stated at a press\nconference on Wednesday local time that the three suspects are Norwegian\ncitizens in their twenties with family ties to Iraq. One of them is\nbelieved to be the individual whose photograph was previously circulated\nby police.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are suspected of committing terrorist bombing,\u201d Hatlo stated\nfirmly. He added that the three men, whose identities have been kept\nconfidential, have no criminal records or prior known history with\npolice.<\/p>\n
Security authorities are now investigating various motives behind the\nattack. One theory being examined is the possible involvement of a\nforeign state actor. The investigation is focusing on a video uploaded\nto Google Maps around the time of the incident but which has since been\ndeleted.<\/p>\n
Local media reports indicate the video displayed a former supreme\nleader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died last month in a\ncombined US-Israeli strike in Tehran.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe most important thing is to conduct interviews with them [the\nsuspects], and then we will see what happens next,\u201d Hatlo said regarding\nthe ongoing interrogation process.<\/p>\n
The explosion occurred early Sunday morning around 02:00 local time\non Morgedalsvegen Street in the Ullern district of Oslo. Whilst it\ncaused physical damage to glass doors and left scorch marks on the floor\narea, no casualties were reported from the incident.<\/p>\n
Norwegian police have given high priority to the case, deploying\ntracker dogs, drones, and helicopters to sweep the scene. Photographs\ncirculating on social media show broken glass scattered across snow\noutside the consular entrance of the embassy.<\/p>\n
The Norwegian Government has strongly condemned the act. Foreign\nMinister Espen Barth Eide stressed that such action is unacceptable.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe security of diplomatic missions is very important to us,\u201d Eide\nsaid, emphasising Norway\u2019s commitment to protecting foreign\nrepresentatives.<\/p>\n
