Prosecutors have demanded prison sentences ranging from 2.5 to 3 years for three executives of Blueray Cargo for their involvement in a bribery scheme with customs officials. The defendants, including the company's director, were found to have paid billions of rupiah to secure preferential treatment for their imported goods. The prosecution argued the actions undermined the government's anti-corruption efforts and tarnished the image of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

Three defendants in a customs bribery case have been handed prison
sentence demands by prosecutors. The defendants are John Field, a
director of Blueray Cargo; Deddy Kurniawan Sukolo, the company’s
operational manager; and Andri, the head of the company’s document
team.

Prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stated
they are convinced the defendants are guilty of paying bribes to several
Customs and Excise officials. The bribes, totalling IDR 91.7 billion,
were allegedly delivered in envelopes with specific numerical codes. The
defendants are also accused of providing an additional IDR 30 billion to
an individual named Ahmad Dedi, also known as Dedi Congor.

Beyond cash payments, the defendants were found to have provided
entertainment and luxury goods, including a TAG Heuer watch and a Mazda
CX-5 car, to customs officials, with a total value of IDR 1.8 billion.
The prosecution argued that these payments and facilities were intended
to secure special privileges, allowing Blueray Cargo’s imported goods to
be released more quickly from customs supervision. The prosecutors
believe there was close cooperation and mutual awareness among the three
defendants in carrying out the bribery.

Aggravating factors in the sentencing demand included the defendants’
actions undermining the government’s programme to establish a clean
administration and damaging the reputation of the Directorate General of
Customs and Excise under the Ministry of Finance. Mitigating factors
included the defendants’ polite behaviour during the trial and their
lack of prior criminal convictions.

The prosecution has charged the defendants under Article 605
paragraph 1 letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal
Code. The specific sentence demands are as follows: John Field faces 3
years’ imprisonment and a fine of IDR 300 million, subsided by 100 days
of confinement; Deddy Kurniawan Sukolo and Andri each face 2.5 years’
imprisonment and a fine of IDR 200 million, subsided by 80 days of
confinement.
",
