Three arrested over car registration fraud<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City Police arrested three people believed to be
\ninvolved in falsifying car registration data, which caused losses
\namounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah, a police officer
\nsaid on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Col. Soeroso, head of traffic directorate, disclosed that the
\nsuspects, identified as Zs, Hn, and Fr, acknowledged that they
\nhad committed the crime over the last four months. The police
\nalso revoked the documents of 30 luxurious cars because they were
\nregistered with falsified data.<\/p>\n
Soeroso explained that the three suspects put false data into
\nthe police computer through Fr, the computer maintenance worker
\nat Jakarta Municipality's Center Office for Electronic Data.<\/p>\n
The two other suspects were in charge of looking for orders
\nfrom car owners, who wanted to register their cars. Their clients
\nwere car owners who wanted to avoid the costs of processing the
\ntransfer of ownership.<\/p>\n
People who buy second hand cars are obliged to pay the costs
\nof ownership transfer, in addition to the annual taxes.<\/p>\n
Some car owners try to avoid the payment of ownership transfer
\nby borrowing the identification cards of the previous owners for
\nthe extension of the car documents. And the new way of avoiding
\nthe obligation is by getting syndicates, like the one run by Fr,
\nHn, and Zs, to falsify the data in the police computer.<\/p>\n
\"Because Fr knows computer technology and always controls the
\ncity police's computer, he can enter data into the computer
\nnetwork,\" Suroso said.<\/p>\n
He said that the police are still investigating car
\nregistrations which were processed using fake data, or not
\nprocessed through proper procedures.<\/p>\n
A report recently disclosed that tens of registration
\ndocuments, with improper information, are reportedly issued
\neveryday by city police. The improper documents were mostly
\nprocessed through service bureaus by giving additional payment,
\nJayakarta daily reported.<\/p>\n
Traffic control<\/p>\n
Suroso also announced that city police have expanded traffic
\ncontrol zones to enforce traffic order.<\/p>\n
The control zones which previously covered only major
\nthoroughfares on Jl.Sudirman and Jl. Thamrin are expanded to
\ninclude Blok M and Harmoni, he said.<\/p>\n
In Central Jakarta, the new zone covers Jl. Taman Suropati,
\nJl. Teuku Umar, Jl. Cut Meutia, Jl. Menteng Raya, Jl. M. Ridwan
\nRais, Jl.Merdeka Timur and Jl.Merdeka Barat.<\/p>\n
In North Jakarta, the new zone include Jl. Yos Sudarso, Jl.
\nCempaka Putih, Jl. Enggano, and Jl. Tanjung Priok, while in West
\nJakarta the new zone covers the Slipi area, Jl. S. Parman,
\nGrogol, and Jembatan Tiga.<\/p>\n
In East Jakarta, the enforcement covers Jl. Matraman, Jl.
\nPramuka, Jl. Pemuda, and Jl. Dewi Sartika.<\/p>\n
In the control zones police will take stern action against
\nmotorists violating traffic regulations.<\/p>\n
The traffic order zones in Tangerang include Tanah Tinggi,
\nKelapa Kuning, Gendeng, Sukasari and Sukarasa areas.<\/p>\n
In Depok the zones cover Jl. Margonda Raya, Simpang Gang
\nSalak, Jl. Arief Rahman Hakim and Jl. Dewi Sartika, while in
\nBekasi, the control zone covers Jl. Achmad Yani and Jl. H.
