Three archers named for Asian championships<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Especially tough preparations for the Olympic
\nGames has forced Indonesia to name a tiny team of three men for
\nthe IX Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok in March.<\/p>\n
Rahantoknam, newly elected secretary general of the Indonesian
\nArchery Association, told reporters after a hearing with the
\nNational Sports Council here yesterday that the association had
\nno options but to send 18th Southeast Asian Games veterans
\nSyafruddin Mawi, Hendra Setijawan and Wahyu Hidayat to the Asian
\nmeet.<\/p>\n
The championships will decide Asian rankings, which will in
\nturn determine entry to the upcoming Olympics in Atlanta,
\nGeorgia, this summer.<\/p>\n
"We decided not to ask our women's team because they have
\nalready qualified for the Olympics. They will concentrate on
\ntheir Olympic preparations at home, instead," Rahantoknam said.
\nThe centralized training program will kick off tomorrow.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian trio of Nurfitriyana Lantang, Hamdiah and
\nDahliana landed their country its third successive Olympic berth
\nafter taking a bronze in the 38th World Archery Championships
\nhere last year.<\/p>\n
Rahantoknam said the archers, who won a gold in the SEA Games,
\nwould be sent back home to their respective provinces if they
\nfailed in the Asian championships.<\/p>\n
"They would do well to focus on their preparations for the
