        "content": "<p>Thousands suffer from TB<\/p>\n<p>PADANG, West Sumatra: A total of 1,451, or 37 percent, of<br>\npatients at hospitals and health centers in Western Sumatra in<br>\nthe past year have been found to be suffering from tuberculosis<br>\n(TB), an official says.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the Ministry of Health's provincial office Dr. Firdaus<br>\nBahauddin said yesterday the figure was lower than that recorded<br>\nin the previous year, when 40 percent of health service consumers<br>\nwere found to be suffering from TB.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 14 regencies in the province, Pesisir Selatan has the<br>\nmost TB patients, followed by Agam, Sawah Lunto-Sijunjung and<br>\nPadang. Firdaus did not give detailed statistics for each<br>\nregency.<\/p>\n<p>Firdaus lamented the high number of TB patients dropping out<br>\nof treatment. \"This disease needs lengthy treatment, and most<br>\npeople became impatient and refused to take regular medication,\"<br>\nhe said.
