Java<\/p>\n<p>SEMARANG: Some 3,300 houses in 14 villages in Cilacap regency<br>\nwere inundated on Wednesday following two days of heavy rains.<\/p>\n<p>As of Wednesday afternoon, the water was as high as 1.5 meters<br>\nin some locations.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the flooding occurred when a 15-meter-long dam<br>\non Cibeureum River broke under the increased water pressure<br>\nresulting from the rain.<\/p>\n<p>\"In Sidorejo district flood waters hit the villages of<br>\nGunungrejo, Sodorejo, Sidomulyo, Tinggarjaya, Margasari and<br>\nTegalsari,\" Central Java spokesman B. Soetrisno said on<br>\nWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Sidorejo was the worst hit area with over half of the<br>\ninundated houses in that district. Hundreds of villagers have<br>\nsought refuge on higher ground.<\/p>\n<p>\"About 170 people are being sheltered at the Sidorejo military<br>\noffice,\" Soetrisno said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the local administration was considering<br>\npermanently relocating residents.<\/p>\n<p>\"Flooding occurs almost every year, so I think a resettlement<br>\nprogram is the only answer to this problem,\" Soetrisno said.<br>\n(har\/edt)<\/p>",
