Thorough check on bidding prices urged<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto ordered yesterday that the
\ngovernment's procurement team thoroughly check prices offered by
\nbidders of foreign-financed projects, worth more than Rp 5
\nbillion (US$2.2 million).<\/p>\n
Rahardi Ramelan, deputy chairman of the National Planning
\nBoard, and a member of the procurement team, said after a meeting
\nwith the President yesterday that his team has checked the prices
\nof goods overseas.<\/p>\n
\"But the checks need to be intensified, especially because the
\nprices of several goods have declined substantially,\" Rahardi
\nsaid. He was accompanied by Minister of National Development
\nPlanning\/Chairman of the National Development Planning Board
\n(Bappenas) Ginandjar Kartasasmita.<\/p>\n
Citing an example, he said that the price of a diesel power
\ngenerating plant overseas has declined by 20 percent.<\/p>\n
He said the President also instructed the team to give full
\nattention to the technical specifications offered by bidders of
\ngovernment projects.<\/p>\n
He said that between Feb. 8 and early this month the team had
\nreceived tender proposals for 235 projects, valued at Rp 9.6
\ntrillion.<\/p>\n
\"The team has approved tender requests for 183 projects worth
\nRp 7.2 trillion but rejected 32 other proposals for Rp 1.3
\ntrillion worth of projects because there are simply no funds for
\nthose projects,\" Rahardi said, giving no further details on other
