The government\nprovided a formal defence of the move on Wednesday local time.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting Arab News on Thursday (3\/9\/2026), Taliban government\nspokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated during a press conference that\nthe new regulation is fully compliant with Islamic law. \u201cProtest does\nnot exist in Islamic law,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrations in Afghanistan have been extremely rare since the\nTaliban returned to power more than five years ago. However, last month,\nthe government officially introduced strict regulations asserting that\nall forms of protest are now totally prohibited.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mujahid, protest actions are only characteristic of\nsocieties that establish different legal systems, such as democracies or\nrepublics. He stated that under an Islamic system, citizens can directly\napproach the government to convey grievances instead of holding\ndemonstrations in the streets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will also protect people from wasting time and prevent the\ndestruction of private property,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>This statement immediately triggered sharp reactions from the\ninternational community. Human Rights Watch (HRW) mocked the ban,\ndescribing it as a cruel step by the Taliban to suppress all forms of\ndissent.<\/p>\n<p>Echoing HRW, Amnesty International described the series of broad\nchanges in Taliban law enforcement as a \u201cnew attack sweeping away human\nrights in Afghanistan.\u201d The organisation identified the protest ban as\none of the most horrific provisions.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the United Nations (UN) revealed that at least two people\nwere killed last June.
