        "content": "<p>Thirty-four players to join national soccer team<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has<br>\nnamed 34 players from 13 main division clubs to join the national<br>\nteam for the 2002 World Cup pre-qualifying round.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Benny Dolo told reporters on Tuesday that the core<br>\nteam would only comprise of 25 players before they start<br>\ncompeting on April 1.<\/p>\n<p>\"We don't have much choice due to limited time. But we picked<br>\nplayers with one precondition: good cooperation with me. So they<br>\nhave almost the same characteristics with me,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Benny said under-23 players in the list would be selected for<br>\nthe Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur in September.<br>\nPSSI has set no target in the pre-qualifying round, but it aims<br>\nto be finalists in the Games.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-players were selected by a special talent-scouting<br>\ngroup established by PSSI. The training program will start on<br>\nMonday.<\/p>\n<p>\"There will be some friendly matches against local teams<br>\nbefore the 25 players are decided. We may stage the friendlies on<br>\nMarch 27, 29 and 31. It's very difficult to find good practice<br>\npartners as most teams are competing in the ongoing Bank Mandiri<br>\nnational league.\"<\/p>\n<p>Benny said PSSI had agreed to include more juniors in the team<br>\nto increase match experience.<\/p>\n<p>He also said players from PSM of Makassar, South Sulawesi,<br>\nwould be allowed to join the team after the Asian Club<br>\nChampionship quarterfinals from March 21 to March 25.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia is in the World Cup Asia zone Group 9 with Cambodia,<br>\nChina and the Maldives. Indonesia will play the Maldives on April<br>\n8, Cambodia on April 22, and China on May 27 in the home matches.<br>\nIn the away matches, Indonesia will face Cambodia on April 29,<br>\nthe Maldives on May 6 and China on May 13.
