        "content": "<p>Thick haze blankets Sampit<\/p>\n<p>SAMPIT, Central Kalimantan: Thick haze from forest fires<br>\nreturned to Central Kalimantan on Friday, blanketing most parts<br>\nof Sampit city in East Kotawaringin regency.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was unclear where the smoke was coming from.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the East Kotawaringin environment management office<br>\n(Bapedalda) Ketut Widi Widiawan blamed land clearance by suburban<br>\nresidents in Sampit for the haze.<\/p>\n<p>However, other information pointed to fires on land owned by<br>\nmajor plantation companies in the regency, he added.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will check this information,\" Widiawan claimed.<\/p>\n<p>He said the choking haze would continue to hit the regency<br>\nduring the dry season.<\/p>\n<p>Based on satellite monitoring on Aug. 3, 2003, at least 37 hot<br>\nspots were found across the regency, he said, adding that the<br>\nnumber was among the 194 fires detected in Central Kalimantan.<br>\n--Antara<\/p>",
