        "content": "<p>There is still hope<\/p>\n<p>The string of events that have occurred during the past week<br>\nshould give cause for growing concern among Indonesians. The<br>\nvalue of the rupiah declined again, which demonstrates the<br>\nprogressive weakening of the currency against the U.S. dollar.<br>\nThis makes it difficult for business to calculate the prices of<br>\nproducts, affects production costs and causes the amount of<br>\ndollars that people in business must accumulate for debt<br>\nrepayment purposes to swell. The public, too, is inconvenienced<br>\nbecause almost all consumer products use imported components.<\/p>\n<p>Another laughable development occurred this week. Finance<br>\nMinister Prijadi Praptosuhardjo declared in a meeting with the<br>\nHouse of Representative's Commission IX that the agreement for<br>\nthe purchase of a palm oil estate belonging to the Salim Group by<br>\nthe Malaysian company Guthrie Berhad has not been finalized.<br>\nThis is despite the fact that the sale of the asset, which is<br>\ncontrolled by the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA),<br>\nhas already been approved by the agency's financial policy<br>\ncommittee. Coordinating Minister of Economy, Rizal Ramli, said he<br>\nconsidered the transaction final.<\/p>\n<p>What happened to Mobil Oil and Arun (natural gas fields) has<br>\nfurther damaged Indonesia's image as a safe location for<br>\ninvestment. One further implication is that the trust of user<br>\ncountries of Arun products is being marred.
