        "content": "<p>Theft ring leader shot dead<\/p>\n<p>TANGERANG (JP): Police shot dead a man believed to be the<br>\nleader of a vehicle theft ring during the Berantas Jaya Operation<br>\nearly on Thursday in Merak village, Balaraja district.<\/p>\n<p>Tangerang Police deputy chief of detectives Insp. Kustanto<br>\nsaid Apang G. Sanan, alias Deden, 33, was shot for resisting<br>\narrest and attacking officers with a sickle.<\/p>\n<p>He said police had long pursued Apang, the suspected head of<br>\nfour gang members who are still at large.<\/p>\n<p>Kustanto said Apang and his accomplices usually rode RX King<br>\nmotorcycles during their heists and would wound their victims<br>\nbefore taking their motorcycle or car.<\/p>\n<p>According to police records, the gang had stolen 12<br>\nmotorcycles and one Toyota Kijang.<\/p>\n<p>Kustanto added that Apang escaped from the Sepatan Police<br>\ndetention center after he was arrested for motorcycle theft in<br>\n1989.(41)<\/p>",
