Theater staged at court<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A street theater performance took place on
\nThursday in front of the South Jakarta District Court, while a
\nwoman who had reported a corruption case was being tried on
\ndefamation charges.<\/p>\n
The show, titled Witness Suffers due to Court Mafia, was
\nstaged by Tukul Theater and Indonesian Corruption Watch.<\/p>\n
In the performance, an arrogant man in a black suit bearing
\nthe title \"Suspect\" walked to and fro puffing smoke from a
\ncigarette, while \"Witness\" was put into a cage. A man in shabby
\nclothes with a torch in his hand suddenly appeared and shouted:
\n\"Where is justice?\"<\/p>\n
The court is trying Maria Leonita Sri Chandra Harumi, who is
\naccused of defamation in connection with her reports of bribery
\ninvolving the Supreme Court's Director of Administration, Zainal
\nAgus.<\/p>\n
On Thursday's hearing, the defendant's lawyer, I Wayan
\nSudirta, asked the court to drop the case because the indictment
\nwas not accurate.<\/p>\n
The lawyer also read a letter signed by the chairman of the
\nNational Ombudsman Commission, Antonius Sujata, who asked the
\nAttorney General's Office, an institution that used to coordinate
\nthe Joint Anticorruption Team (TGPTPK), to protect witnesses who
\nreport alleged corruption cases.<\/p>\n
Maria has been sent to court for her report of alleged bribery
\nfiled at the now-defunct Anticorruption Team.<\/p>\n
Zainal was earlier taken to the court, but the case was
\ndismissed last month on the grounds that the team had been
\ndissolved before the trial started.<\/p>",
