We are facing many challenges in this era of globalization;
\nthese challenges exist in economics, politics, social matters and
\nculture.<\/p>\n
The young are vulnerable to the influence of alien cultures.
\nChildren like to copy what they see as admirable; they may take
\non the positive or the negative aspects of a different culture.
\nIt depends on those responsible for their upbringing.<\/p>\n
I have noticed that our youngsters are infatuated with the
\nWest, in their ethics, food, clothing, lifestyle, relationships,
\nindependence, and drugs. Ecstasy is only one of the more
\nimmediate problems in this country.<\/p>\n
There are several factors causing these social problems.<\/p>\n
* The rapid flow of information and culture from the West.<\/p>\n
* The declining intensity of religious education, ethics and
\nmorals, and insufficient parental authority.<\/p>\n
* The growing trend towards hedonism and consumerism, and a
\nstrong desire for material things. Status seems to depend on how
\nrich a person is.<\/p>\n
* The law is weak and the way we deal with criminals is
\ninadequate.<\/p>\n
We should be astute and intelligent around foreign cultures,
\nwhich are impossible to resist in this era of globalization.<\/p>\n
Parents should revive their influence, and education to
\ncritical, creative, alternative and innovative thought should be
\ninitiated.<\/p>\n
Thus the nation would be strengthened. It is said that the
\nyoung are the future of the nation. Determined and sturdy they
\nwill write the nation's history.<\/p>\n
