According to media reports, the Armed Forces faction in the
\nHouse of Representatives has urged the government to submit a
\nbill on demonstrations to the House. If, after being debated, it
\nis enacted, society will have a guideline on how demonstrations
\nshould be conducted.<\/p>\n
As a matter of fact, demonstrations are guaranteed in a
\ndemocratic state, provided they are conducted in an orderly
\nmanner. Also in any country in the world, including Europe and
\nSouth Korea, the right to demonstration is fully guaranteed,
\nmeaning that the government does not need to regulate them
\nbecause democracy gives the people the right to express their
\ninterests by way of demonstrations.<\/p>\n
However, in our country the government has the right to manage
\nits citizens. In doing so, it should not forget that Indonesia
\ncooperates with many foreign countries and many international
\nbodies. This calls for consideration in the government's actions
\nif cooperation is to be actively maintained.<\/p>\n
For example, the issues of human rights, democracy and the
\nenvironment in Indonesia are being scrutinized. This compels us
\nto think and act cautiously so that our policies do not backfire.<\/p>\n
