He noted that civil society frequently\ncriticises the president\u2019s ambition to fulfil his campaign promises\nthrough the implementation of the free nutritious meal project.\nAccording to him, the programme has failed in its governance. One\nindication is the alleged corruption case involving former leaders of\nthe National Nutrition Agency, the institution responsible for the\nproject. The presidium member of the Indonesian Caucus for Academic\nFreedom said the governance failure of the free nutritious meal project\nhas not only resulted in systemic corruption. He stated that this\nambitious project has also harmed the future of national education.\n\u201cImagine, the government prefers to pour large sums of money into this\nproject rather than accommodating the needs and welfare of teachers,\u201d he\nsaid when contacted on Monday, 27 July 2026. The decline in satisfaction\nwith President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s performance was released in survey\nresults by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting. The institution\nrevealed the president\u2019s approval rating in July 2026 stood at 51.1\npercent, a drop of 30.1 percentage points compared to nine months prior.\nHerdiansyah assessed that the decline in satisfaction has not been\naccompanied by efforts to improve and evaluate government policies. The\nproof, he said, is that programmes deemed problematic, such as the free\nnutritious meal scheme and the \u2018red and white\u2019 village cooperatives,\ncontinue despite increasingly harsh public criticism. \u201cI suspect these\nprotests will spread further because instead of listening to public\nprotest, Prabowo seems to be challenging them,\u201d he said. He highlighted\nthe president\u2019s recent statement accusing journalists and NGOs of being\n\u2018londo ireng\u2019 (black foreigners). According to him, this labelling of\nthe public demonstrates Prabowo\u2019s anti-criticism character. \u201cI think\nthis is what will cause the protests to spread even wider, even leading\ntowards civilian disobedience,\u201d said Herdiansyah.<\/p>",
