The Indonesian military (TNI) said Friday it had killed three
\nrebels in war-torn Aceh province, where troops have been battling
\nseparatist guerrillas for nine months.<\/p>\n
The three Free Aceh Movement (GAM) rebels were shot dead
\nduring a clash with 12 soldiers in South Aceh district on
\nThursday, said Captain Candra Purnama, a local military
\nspokesman.<\/p>\n
Troops seized an automatic rifle from the three, all in their
\n20s, Purnama said, adding that soldiers were still chasing seven
\nother rebels who fled after the raid.<\/p>\n
No GAM officials could be immediately reached for comment.<\/p>\n
The report followed an announcement by another military
\nspokesman Thursday that the Indonesian military had stopped
\npublishing figures for killed rebels.<\/p>\n
Rights groups have questioned whether all those in the
\ncasualty count were actually rebels, partly because the number of
\nweapons the military seized from the dead was less than half the
