As the big day of May 30 approaches, political suspense has
\nbeen on the increase as to whether or not the House of
\nRepresentatives will reject the presidential accountability
\nspeech following memorandum I and memorandum II and decide to go
\nahead with impeachment proceedings.<\/p>\n
The only person who is very sure that President Abdurrahman
\nWahid will have to account for his performance and policies
\nbefore the special session of the People's Consultative Assembly
\n(MPR) is Amien Rais, the MPR's speaker and chairman of the
\nNational Mandate Party (PAN). Amien has assured the media that
\nthe special session of the MPR is something "inevitable" and
\nnobody should hide the truth about this certainty and it should
\nbe seen as something "indisputable" as well.<\/p>\n
Further, the MPR Speaker has openly revealed that preparations
\nfor the big day have been going on. The speaker has discussed
\nthese preparations with almost all chairpersons of the House
\nfactions. The factions' leaders in the House have reported to
\nAmien Rais the conclusions reached at their meeting in
\ndiscussions about the big day.<\/p>\n
In essence these House factions see the need to have a
\ngovernment based on the majority of the political parties that
\nwill be strong, stable and productive.<\/p>\n
The nation is now waiting with impatience, curiosity and a
\nkind of irritated boredom for the curtain to go up.<\/p>\n
