The Bali bomb investigation<\/p>\n
The police investigation of the Bali bombing is apparently
\ncoming to its final stages, despite many important, lingering
\nquestions among the general populace.<\/p>\n
Are those people said to be involved in the Bali bombing
\nreal, or just the fictitious result of police or intelligence
\nagents' manipulation? Are they all members of Jamaah Islamiyah
\n(JI)?<\/p>\n
The police have arrested a suspect named Amrozi. Now they want
\nHambali (Riduan Isamudin), the alleged operational leader of JI.
\nThe police are also hunting at least four people close to Amrozi,
\nwhile intensively questioning Muhammad Zakaria, leader of the al-
\nIslam Islamic boarding school in Lamongan, East Java.<\/p>\n
With these facts, it seems to us that things are clear; those
\nbehind the Bali bombing have all been identified.<\/p>\n
First it was al-Qaeda, now it is JI's turn to be suspected as
\na Muslim radical group. And the stigmatization of JI as a new
\nghost has begun. Does JI really exist? Where is its head office
\nand who is the top leader?<\/p>\n
Alfitra Salam, an observer who has been living in Malaysia for
\nmany years, could be right when he speculates that JI is an
\nimaginary organization created by intelligence agents working for
\nPrime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. Mahathir's move was apparently
\nmade in an effort to block the opposition party led by Anwar
\nIbrahim.<\/p>\n
There are always mysterious possibilities when it comes to
\nterrorism. We do hope that the Bali bomb mystery will be resolved
\nsoon in as transparent a manner as possible.<\/p>\n
